Far away eyes – Rolling Stones. Once upon a time in the 1990′s a 16 year old was riding in the car with his southern baptist friends parents(dad was a deacon of the church). Of course, my friend and I insisted on choosing the music. The album de jour of that moment in time was “Some Girls”, the Rolling Stones 1978 release. Personally I was(and still am) attracted to it because if its twangy feel and bluesy vibe….back to the story, so we’re riding in the car and the stones are singing about finding a girl with far away eyes. I could then and still can, only imagine that a girl with far away eyes is not your regular girl next girl type, rather someone who is different than the type of person who a southern baptist might associate with. They were good sports as we listened to the entire tape(both sides), but the stones can make you feel awkward around any ones parents, especially southern baptist types.

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
F/G Bb/A Bb
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station

And the preacher said,
F F/G Bb/A
"You know you always have the Lord by your side"
Bb C
And I was so pleased to be informed of this
F F/G Bb/A Bb
That I ran twenty red lights in his honor
F C F F/G Bb/A
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
F/G Bb/A
And I thought by the time I got there she'd be off
Bb C F
She'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
F/G Bb/A Bb
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
C F F/G Bb/A Bb
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
F C F F/G Bb/A
Was a girl with far away eyes
CHORUS:
Bb C
So if you're down on your luck
F F/G Bb/A Bb
And you can't harmonize
F C F F/G Bb/A
Find a girl with far away eyes
Bb C
And if you're downright disgusted
F F/G Bb/A Bb
And life ain't worth a dime
F C F F/G Bb/A Bb
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that
All I had to do was
F F/G Bb/A Bb
Send ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of Jesus
C
Located somewhere in Los Angeles, California
F
And next week they'd say my prayer on the radio
F/G Bb/A Bb
And all my dreams would come true
C F F/G Bb/A Bb F
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
C F F/G Bb/A Bb
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got
CHORUS:
Bb C
So if you're down on your luck
F F/G Bb/A Bb
I know you all sympathize
F C F F/G Bb/A Bb
Find a girl with far away eyes

And if you're downright disgusted

Its been a wild ride for the guitar shack. Looking forward to year number 10, as we set out to get to the heart of why we play music in the first place and explore those beginner to intermediate types of songs which also happen to sound cool. Cheers to almost one decade of the shack.
You can’t always get what you want – Rolling Stones. Great song for learning to switch between the barre chord F(a must learn) and the regular C. Just choose one strum pattern and stick with it. Try starting the strum pattern with 2 slow down strokes(makes it sound better). Good luck, I’ll post the next mini lesson soon.

*formatting issue(The C’s on the tab should all be moved over to the right one word)
